Sara was raised in the high desert of Oregon. She was the arts and culture editor for The Source Weekly in Bend, Oregon, and was an editor for Sasquatch Books in Seattle. Her work has appeared in numerous Northwest publications. Sara has a master's degree in writing from Portland State University.
Sara spent the first part of her professional life working for Seattle-area nonprofits. She was a program manager at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Puget Sound where she led the team responsible for recruiting and training thousands of mentors in the program each year. She spent five years as the director of outdoor programming for youth at CYO Seattle, taught high school history, and worked as a residential treatment counselor for teen girls. She loves mid-'90s Northwest indie rock, the smell of sagebrush and juniper, and anything having to do with the Puget Sound.
