Match Factory: Match your email list and Facebook Fans

He's signed up for email news. Is he a Facebook Fan? (And can we get some of that coffee?)

A quick follow-up to last week's blog post on purchasing social media data: Jesse Haff and Jim Gilliam of 3dna (the guys behind the Twitter petition tool act.ly) just released Match Factory, a tool that matches the email addresses in your database to their corresponding Facebook accounts.

You start by connecting your Facebook account to Match Factory and uploading a text file with your email addresses. Match Factory returns the file with six new fields from Facebook -- Facebook ID, first and last name, profile URL, and profile picture URL.  According to their FAQ, they will match about 40% of your list on average.

Match Factory won't give you the huge amount of information you can get from Rapleaf -- you only get info from Facebook, and even there you don't get friend counts, demographic info, or likes, for example. So you won't be able to do the kind of targeting we recommended with Rapleaf data.

But if you're looking to add Facebook profile links to your database, you probably won't find a better or cheaper option. Match Factory is just a penny per record, compared to three cents per record for Rapleaf.  And they offer a 10% discount to nonprofits.
