Civic Engagement
A movement is nothing without the people who power it. The internet has revolutionized civic engagement -- allowing groups to connect, engage and inspire community members at a much larger scale.
Featured Organizations
Washington Bus
The Washington Bus promotes an inspiring blend of old-school grassroots organizing mixed with a healthy dose of the Generation Tech skill-set. This nonprofit is interested in engaging young voters in the issues of the day, and loads up young, mobile and tech-savvy volunteers to knock on doors all over Washington. Organizations like the Washington Bus need our tools to capitalize on the younger generation’s renewed interest in politics, keeping the momentum alive in a population raised on technology.
Alaska Conservation Voters
Groundwire works with many conservation voter groups around the country. Alaska Conservation Voters was instrumental in the creation of the renewable energy fund, in securing over $300 million for weatherization and efficiency programs, in educating legislators on conservation issues, and in building alliances with other conservation-friendly organizations.
Organizing For Change
Six of this coalition’s member organizations agreed in early 2009 to pool their email lists for a voter education campaign prior to the B.C. elections in May. The messages asked recipients to communicate with all candidates: to encourage them to make the environment a key topic in debates, to ask candidates for their positions on environmental issues, and to promise follow-up with the candidates after they were elected to office.
