The Plone Interface

Learn how to navigate around a Plone-powered website and learn about the different pieces of the Plone interface.

Now that you're logged in, let's introduce you to the different pieces of a Plone website. Depending on how much graphic design has gone into your site, these examples might look very different, or the layout of these sections might have been changed. For the purposes of this tutorial, we'll use a copy of Plone "out-of-the-box". 

Below is a screenshot with explanations of what each area is for. Don't worry if you don't understand all the terminology, you should just familiarize yourself with the different pieces.

 

The Plone Interface

  1. Left Column - Portlets such as Navigation, News, Events, etc . . . are found here
  2. Navigation Tabs - The main navigation for the site
  3. Personal Bar - Change your password, update your profile, logout
  4. Site Actions - Site map, site settings, contact, etc
  5. Right Column - Portlets such as Navigation, News, Events, etc . . . are found here
  6. Task Bar - Add items, manage content, edit content
  7. Content Area - You have direct edit control over this section
